eLearning Alliance Conference 2007

The eLearning Alliance represents Scotland’s eLearning community, making business connections for its members, and coordinating access to consultancy and research, local and national events, and fostering an active network of members.

Its aim is to promote, enhance, assist, facilitate and encourage, by whatever means, the highest quality support for skills development in Scotland through the use of eLearning products and services.

To support the above objective, the eLearning Alliance Scotland is pleased to announce that the annual conference will take place on 20 April 2007.

CONFERENCE THEME: GLOBAL ELEARNING - SECURING SCOTTISH SUCCESS'

The eLearning Alliance, in its role of supporting positive collaboration and facilitating strategic alliances, is pleased to announce this major conference for the eLearning community.

To date Scotland has been a leader in the field of eLearning development.  The conference focuses on the means to secure and extend this global reach.  Through the showcasing of best practice, sharing of experience and consideration of expert opinion in the field, the 2007 conference is the event to attend for all learning providers and their supporters.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This conference is focused on the needs of those involved in the design, development, delivery and management of eLearning. It will discuss some of the latest tools, technologies, techniques, and strategies in the eLearning arena and the impact they can have on learner outcomes.

In bringing all eLearning sectors together, this conference also provides a forum to build relationships, learn from the experience of others and go away from the day that bit more informed than when delegates arrived.

This conference provides an opportunity to bring the eLearning industry together to discuss how we can build on Scotland’s reputation as a learning nation; its benefits; its challenges; its future. All these subjects and more will be covered during the day and the eLearning Alliance Scotland Board hope you take the opportunity to make your voice heard amongst colleagues from all sectors of Scotland’s eLearning industry.

RECORDING AUDIENCE RESPONSES

The conference will use sophisticated electronic polling equipment, supplied by Qwizdom, one of the conference sponsors, throughout the day to capture delegate responses. This data will form the basis of the debate in the question and answer sessions and the panel session while the results will be collated in a report which will be submitted to the Scottish Executive - allowing delegate’s views to go directly to the heart of decision making.

Full instructions will be given on the day as to the use of the electronic polling equipment.

A summary of the speaker presentations, questions and discussion and the analysis of the polling results will be submitted in a report to interested parties. It will also be made available to all delegates along with the day’s presentation slides.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

JOHN CONNELL

Title: Re-Framing Education for the 21st Century

Education today is a global phenomenon. It was ever thus, of course – every society in history has sought to pass to each succeeding generation the skills, the knowledge and the ideology deemed necessary for survival and progress. In this flattening world, however, education is increasingly seen as the key driver in creating the conditions needed to ensure growing competitiveness and prosperity for countries and regions across the world. I will look at the conjunction of education and technology as the central focus for the changes required in educational thinking and practice.

STEPHEN MOLYNEUX

Title: Are VLEs suitable for 21st Century Learning

This keynote will address the issues regarding Virtual Learning  Environments and their possible unsuitability in providing support  for 21st Century Learners. It will look at the characteristics of the  Neo-Millennium Learner and offer debate as to the suitability of  current software applications in exploiting these characteristics.  The session will challenge some of the current thinking in this area  and stimulate debate between practitioners, vendors and policy makers.
